Today is both a good and bad day. We are on our way to Tawas Point campground for the weekend. This will be Brynnlees first time camping, and we are taking the tent. It should be interesting, but a lot of fun. Jeff and I haven't been camping in almost two years. I'm ready to spend spend sometime in the water and around the campfire.
It will be a sad weekend because Gretta has recently lost most of her vision. It started over memorial day weekend. We noticed that she was unable to keep track of the ball when we threw it. Of course we knew she would lose some vision due to her cloudy eyes. However last night it was much worse. She was tripping over things, and when I tossed a treat to her it just hit her head and fell to the ground. She even had a hard time sniffing it out. Sadly we knew something was wrong and this morning Jeff took her to the vets office. They kept her all day and tested her sugar every hour. The last three hours of the day her sugar was over 600. Now we need to up her dose of insulin from 20 to 25 units twice a day. We also need to change her food to a natural/holistic food. Which on top of the vet bills, insulin and needles will be expensive. It's worth it, but its so hard to see her walk into things and be so unsteady on her feet. She has been the greatest dog and its such a shame that she developed diabetes. I wish there was more that we could do, I feel so helpless.
